It's ALL GOOD at Saul Good!
MyHappyFork decided to see what makes the Saul Good Restaurant one of Lexington’s favorite place to eat.
Ranking at the top favorites on urbanspoon.com, Saul Good Restaurant & Pub tells a story of coming to be as the dream of a jewelers son. After our visit we found it to be a Gold Mine of good food, service and atmosphere.
For our starter we were forced by our culinary curiosity to order the Steak and Beer Cheese Nachos ($9.95). This perfect clustering of food happens to the one of the best Appetizers we've ever tried. Steak, Beer Cheese and Nachos make the perfect fit for a first course. The chunks of grilled steak are tasty but the jalapeno’s were sliced so thin you couldn't tell them apart from other vegis which made one of our tasters non too happy about getting “fire mouth”. I’d HIGHLY recommend you try this dish when you go.
The main course for the MyHappyFork team started with an Argentinean Steak Pizza ($13.95). The fresh garlic really made this dish pop. Wonderfully cooked pizza crust hosts tasty steak chunks and roasted red peppers that were covered by a blend of 5 cheeses. However the Kentucky Hot Brown Pizza ($13.95) was found to be more flavorful and preferred over the Argentinean. Loaded with Mornay Sauce (a cheese sauce) fresh tomatoes, a special 5-cheese blend topping, bacon and all the extras you’d expect to find in a Kentucky Hot Brown. We really liked this pizza! The Queen would sell her Crown Jewels for this recipe. If you’re looking for different pizza, give this one a go.
However the Saul Good shine was tarnished when a member of our party, being allergic to mushrooms, couldn’t have them omitted from the Veggie Pizza. “All the toppings are already mixed together” we were told. We know what you’re thinking, “just pick them off”…. but in this extreme allergy condition even the cooked out juices from mushrooms could be dangerous. Yet this surprising truth left only a small blemish on our overall opinion.
The most precious culinary gem at any restaurant has always been dessert for the MyHappyFork critics. The Half-Baked Chocolate Chip Cookie Sundae ($7.95) is brilliantly cut from the creative mind of the Soul Good Chef. Imagine taking a fresh cookie out of the oven a little early, and mounting a big scoop of ice cream on top. Then loading it with chocolate and topped with a strawberry. You’ll definitely need to share this dish with a friend…. although you may not want to!
And while it’s not what you may expect to see on a Pizza, we’ll be back to try the other creations Saul Good throws onto a crust and bakes. But you’ll also find some good Salads, Burgers and sandwiches that will make your appetite sparkle.
So the next time you’re sifting through eateries on urbanspoon.com, consider giving them a try.
Perhaps you’ll agree that we've struck a vein of delicious foods at Saul Good's.
